To play Tic Tac Toe, also known as “noughts and crosses,” you need a grid with three rows and three columns (Just click the button Print on this page ). Players take turns marking spaces in the grid with their respective symbols, typically “X” for one player and “O” for the other. The objective is to be the first to create a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal row of three of your symbols.

This free Tic Tac Toe Template is great for printing on standard size:

How to play
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to play:
- Draw a 3×3 grid on a piece of paper or use a Tic Tac Toe game board.
- Decide who will be Player 1 (X) and who will be Player 2 (O).
- Player 1 places an “X” in any empty square on the grid.
- Player 2 then places an “O” in any remaining empty square.
- Players take turns placing their symbols until one player achieves three of their symbols in a row.
- The game ends when one player gets three in a row, or when all squares are filled without a winner, resulting in a draw.
The player who successfully gets three of their symbols in a row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) wins the game. If all squares are filled without a winner, the game is a draw.
